Bringing 1:1 to our Kindergarten - Second Grade classrooms
In the fall of 2014, South Newton students in grades 3-12 went into the 1:1 environment with Lenovo laptops that have enhanced their daily learning experiences.
Much preparation went into the implementation of that initiative—1:1 school visitations, preparation of documents, setting up of committees, upgrades to our infrastructure, selection and purchase of the device, considerable professional development, many long hours and a lot of brainstorming.
With the successful implementation of our 3-12 initiative, it is time to complete our mission and bring tech-based individualized learning experiences into the K-2 classrooms.
With a device for each student, teachers could now address whole class and individualized instruction, practice and drill. Reading readiness, Language Arts, Math goals and assessment could be achieved through working with apps and newly created content.
Student engagement levels will be high due to the interactive, hands-on technology. Currently working in a 2:1 or 3:1 classroom can produce behavior and management issues.
South Newton is ready to see technology infused across the board for all our 21st century learners.
Preparation In phase 2, we plan to take our primary team leaders to visit 1:1 iPad elementary schools. We will see how these school have set their procedures, manage their devices but most of all, transformed their lesson into engaging technology rich experiences for their students.
